Very interesting interview that got me listening to some complications of Bach and surprised me that I knew some many of them but not their composer. As you can guess I'm a casual consumer of classical music but maybe I will sample some more in a more focussed way.
I'm also have an interest in AI and was initially surprised at Oliver's conclusion that he would be ok with AI having composed a good piece of music. AI will cause all sort of reactions in the near future as it is used to drive humans out of many value chains. There may well be a neo-luddite backlash in which data centres are the new spinning jennies that the dispossessed will come for. Of course they will be faced by AI-controlled drones/robots. I hope I am wrong but concern over a newly-composed piece of classical music may be the least of our troubles.
Lovely interview, great way to start off my morning today. Thanks so much.
Thanks Will!
Henry, have you read Gödel, Escher, Bach?
Nope…
omg I dmed you

Thanks Graham! Keep digging on Bach it’s an infinite well. I recommend recordings throughout my newsletter, and here’s a primer: https://yearofbach.substack.com/p/an-interlude-where-to-start-with
