This sounds like a snarky comment, maybe, but it is not - there is almost nothing like listening to a lot of Bach to make you think about death, your own death, and with seriousness, even if you are not at all a religious person. And that soprano entrance at the end of the fourth example above is magical, and very hard to pull off.
Powerful stuff, from Bach of course, but also in your narrative. I think most people are ill-equipped to think about and deal with death. Maybe it's part of our nature. Thanks as always!
I am not religious and in my old age do not care about Halloween, but all the prayers are beautiful for their poetry and your articles about music and, especially for me, about composers' life, as Bach, (I'd read previous also) are very interesting. Thank you.
