Don't like countertenors? Might I suggest a listen to Carlos Mena. Incredible voice. Check out his album Et Jesum.

OK Dom this album was really good, and well suited to the voice.

I still feel that I want the Bach sang by women!

Beautiful—thanks for the rec. All of this is not my bailiwick, so thank you Evan and Dom.

I am so with you on countertenors - there's something throaty and gurgly about the sound that I can't abide. Given a choice between pretty much any countertenor and, say, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (granted, she's a mezzo, but still), I know who I'm going to listen to.

I find that the late Alfred Deller’s interpretations of old English folk songs and composers like Dowland and Purcell to be quite convincing. The countertenor range and vocal texture are suited to this material better than any other imo

I'll check out Deller -- he's new to me, thanks!

My advice is to stick with the English music. His Bach is fairly dry. Cheers!
